Quick Assignment: Brainstorm Writing Ideas
Hit comment and list a few articles you can write without needing any outside help. I’m talking articles about your subject that you think would be interesting to write, and interesting for your readers to read.
Why am I assigning this? Because: if you sit in class thinking, “I don’t have anything scheduled to produce,” you can always simply write about one of the ideas you list for your week’s work.

I think I would like to write about…;; crime, movies (not necessarily related to crime), and maybe about some movies I’d like to watch and my reasons for them.

I can write about how basketball is a game of point seconds. It is going be based on this video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=nfurCV1FDpM
There are tons of dramatic basketball games upoaded on youtube, so I can put those videos and write like a poetry about them.

A few topics I could just write about off the top of my head are…
all the places I’ve been to (I’ve moved around a lot), the genres of music that I like, or simply talk about some of the life changing experiences I’ve been through.

My laptop was confiscated by my parents, so I can’t write a lot in class, but some topics I’d be interested in writing about at home are food and drinks.

Well since I’ve been focusing on getting people around the world to support the idea of going against what they believe was right (conformity of the majority) so far, I would want to move on by focusing why I believe people tend to think this way.
I’ll probably be writing about how the society has been influential in racism and stereotypes. But society itself sounds already to vague, and I do know that I will have to focus deeper by either attacking or supporting the aspects of society.
The first part of society that I want to focus on is probably the majority and group conformity. Recently I came across the study of social psychology in which this particular field of psychology proposed that the majority (group) around a certain person played a major role in how he or she thought and responded.
Then I’ll move on to education, culture, drugs, etc.

Considering the fact that I’m a freshmen in high-school, it almost sounds funny (in a ridiculous way) that I’m actually doing something related to video games as a school project. Not that I’m hiding the fact, but if my parents knew about this, they’ll probably roll on the ground laughing.
But I think the choice I made at the beginning of the year to separate and choose this as my topic was a good idea, and my parents laughing, rolling on the floor is exactly what I want.
I want my video to be very funny, while catching some of the information on the game. Hopefully, my video can contribute to someone’s decision, whether to purchas/dowload this game or not. In a way, I’m the tested mouse.
I’ve got the clips ready, now I need some polishing. I’ll be adding some funny comments and pictures in the middle, hoping for it to work.
I’m not going to drag this any longer. I’ll whether fail really big, or it will be ok.

@Younsuk: just a word of warning: writing poetry is really hard to do well, and it’s not as valuable a skill to develop as a good prose voice and style. So I’d suggest you writing prose - fiction or non-fiction, it’s up to you - about those great moments. That doesn’t mean you can’t be poetic. It means you try to capture the same feeling in paragraphs instead of verses.
@Jane: all of those are fine (but they don’t help your project site much?). Personal narrative/memoir is really enjoyable to write. So is travel writing and music/film criticism. Just make sure you try to write them well (because you are a good writer when you try to be).
@Kevin: “my laptop was confiscated” is unfortunate, but you’ve got other technology - pen and paper - to write with. And you can always type them up on the computer at school. So I can’t really take that as an excuse. It’s a problem effective people could easily solve.
@Shim: I just left a huge comment on your last post. But here I’ll say: the idea you mention in this comment is really interesting. I avoided getting into Nietzsche in AP Lit because I just couldn’t figure out at that moment how to say it easily. I did now. It’s this: Nietzsche realized that ALL OF THE MORAL VALUES OF SOCIETY WERE BASED ON TRADITIONS THAT WERE NO LONGER VALID. So he started criticizing everything that society thought was right, but had no good reason, besides tradition, for thinking so. Your idea is very similar. Go for it. Interesting.

I think writing about famous basketball player’s childhood days would be interesting. Then, I could focus on the impact of basketball on one’s life rather than just basketball.

I got my computer back, so i’ll be able to work in class. I have got an interview set up with the place called, “mad for garlic” (not a one to one meeting, but through chat box). I need to mail with him more about the setting and time of meeting, and hope to get in touch with him within this month.

Yeah, I meant a writing that sounds a bit poetic. I’m sure people who likes basketball will also like reading these kind of writings, because I do. I want to write a piece that I would like to read.

@PAUL: you’re already a good writer and speaker, so now you can grow at being independent and generating your own ideas.
Your site will still require writing, in addition to the speaking (the game review movies), so I’ll still expect the writing to show good effort - and I’ll give you feedback on any areas you can improve.
This type of writing is every bit as important as the formal writing you do. It’s a funny thing: students are all better at writing formal papers than they are at writing real stuff that shows _voice_ and _personality_.
And college application essays, letters, and real writing require precisely the kind of voice and personality you’re developing in this class.
I teach workshops in college application essay-writing, so I know what I’m talking about. They hate reading essays that are too formal and stiff. They want personality and voice.
You don’t learn those, again, writing the 5-paragraph essay for history or English. You learn that writing a lot, about things you want to write about.
